Why open-core
We created Cozystack as an open-source CNCF project because cloud infrastructure that aspires to be sovereign, auditable, and customer-controlled must be built on a foundation customers can verify and own:
- Auditable end-to-end — open-source supply chain (DORA Article 24 friendly, NIS2 Article 21 alignable)
- Customer-controlled — customer’s hardware, customer’s keys, customer’s jurisdiction
- Vendor-neutral at the foundation — no architectural lock-in to Ænix
- Long-horizon viable — Apache 2.0 license outlives any single commercial vendor
Ænix Platform is the commercial productized version we offer for organizations that need a turnkey cloud (hosting panel, billing, portals, payments, support, productized installer) without building it themselves. The open-source foundation remains free for anyone to run.
This is the open-core model — like Confluent on Kafka, Canonical on Ubuntu, GitLab CE/EE, or Red Hat on Linux. The open project keeps its integrity; the commercial product adds turnkey value on top.

Per CNCF community norms, cozystack.io stays vendor-neutral — no commercial CTAs, no funnel-links to aenix.io. The boundary protects long-term community trust.
Our story
We started as a team of platform engineers building cloud infrastructure for service providers and regulated enterprises. The pattern we kept seeing: customers wanted a real cloud (multi-tenant, billing, portals, GPU, managed services) but did not want hyperscaler dependency or VMware lock-in. The existing open-source options (raw Kubernetes, OpenStack at scale) required years of platform-engineering investment most customers couldn’t make.
So we built Cozystack — a Kubernetes-native multi-tenant cloud platform — as the foundation we wished we’d had years earlier. It became a CNCF project. Then we productized it: the turnkey commercial layer on top, as three platforms matched to who consumes the capacity.
We are early in our commercial journey. The technology is production-grade — Cozystack runs in production at regional hosting providers, and we have multi-million-euro engagements with tier-1 European banks under NDA. The sales motion is still building.
This is a deliberate sequence: technology first, community second, commercial third. We are now in the commercial-acceleration phase.

How big is Ænix?
Twenty people, backed by PTV. That is deliberately small for the size of the engagements: the platform is a product, so a bank build is a configuration and migration exercise rather than a bespoke construction project, and the same engineers who maintain Cozystack upstream are the ones on your cluster. For a large programme we staff a named delivery team and scale it to the phase; we do not carry a bench.

Are you a Cozystack consultancy?
No. We are an open-core platform vendor. We sell the three Ænix platforms (the commercial productized layer) and engineering services around it. We are also the maintainers of Cozystack (the open-source foundation under Ænix Platform) — but consulting on Cozystack is a side activity, not the primary business.
Why three platforms and not one?
Because the commercial surface differs, not the technology. If you sell capacity to customers you need billing, payments, a customer-facing portal and tenant suspension — machinery an internal platform never touches. If you run cloud for your own organisation under a regulator you need key custody, audit-ready logging, air-gap and control mapping — machinery a hoster rarely needs. One core, two commercial packages. GPU and developer self-service are modules rather than editions because both sides ask for them.
We used to describe five editions. That was one product wearing five names, and it made the catalogue look larger than the product is. Three platforms, split by who consumes the capacity, is the honest shape — and they combine.
