Honest comparisons and real migration paths off legacy platforms

Cozystack and Ænix Platform compared with the most common alternatives. Honest assessments — when each fits, when it doesn’t, what migration looks like. Not marketing battle cards.

VMware

Post-Broadcom, VMware customers face subscription pressure + license model uncertainty. The largest single migration trigger we see in 2026.

Pairs with: Public Cloud Platform (hosting providers exiting VMware Cloud Director, and large operators); Private Cloud Platform (regulated enterprises exiting VMware Cloud Foundation).

OpenStack

OpenStack runs at scale but operationally heavy. Common modernization trigger — replace OpenStack with Cozystack-based foundation, faster feature velocity, smaller ops team.

Pairs with: Public Cloud Platform.

Proxmox

Proxmox is excellent for small environments. Beyond a certain scale, multi-tenancy + service catalog + billing become limiting. Public Cloud Platform fills that gap.

Pairs with: Public Cloud Platform.

OpenShift

OpenShift is enterprise-grade but Red Hat subscription model + opinionated approach don’t fit every organization. Sovereign and cost-conscious enterprises evaluate alternatives.

Pairs with: Private Cloud Platform, including its developer self-service layer.

Nutanix

Nutanix HCI is the strongest day-2 experience in this list, and proprietary. Sovereign and cost-conscious enterprises evaluate alternatives when hardware freedom or a multi-tenant service-provider model matters more than that.

Pairs with: Private Cloud Platform.

Backstage

Backstage is a UI framework for IDPs. Useful but not a complete IDP — it needs a cloud foundation underneath. Private Cloud Platform ships both layers.

Pairs with: Private Cloud Platform (developer self-service layer).

CloudStack

CloudStack legacy environments — modernization patterns to Cozystack-based stack.

Pairs with: Public Cloud Platform.
