CCF exam · version 1.0

Candidate agreement

What you accept when you sit the exam, and on what grounds a certificate may be revoked.

This document is short, and it is not written to scare you. The exam is free and unproctored — which means it rests on an agreement, and an agreement is worth writing down.

You will accept it with a single click before the first question. We will store the fact of your consent and the version of the text you saw.

What you promise

Not to take exam content out. Do not copy down the questions, retell them, post them or pass them on to other candidates.

The reason is not secrecy. Leaked questions devalue the certificate for everyone who already holds it — including you. It is worth exactly as much as the confidence that there is knowledge behind it.

To take the exam yourself. Without help from others, documentation, search or notes on the substance of the questions. You may use a dictionary: the exam is in English, and we are testing knowledge of the platform, not of the language.

To answer for the lab results file. If you upload it, that means it is about your own work. We cannot verify this, and we say so plainly; that is exactly why an agreement is needed here rather than a check.

One person — one account. Do not share access and do not create a second account to get around the limit on attempts.

What we promise

To accept your exam and issue a certificate if you pass.

Not to use up your attempt if something broke on our side. You don’t need to prove anything: the log shows what happened.

Not to publish your results or pass them on to anyone. The certificate contains your name — but you publish it yourself, when you choose to.

To notify you if anything in the program changes that affects certificates already issued.

When a certificate may be revoked

Three grounds, and no others.

  1. Breach of this agreement — taking content out, outside help, a forged lab file.
  2. Our error in issuing it — the certificate appeared because of a malfunction.
  3. Your request.

The procedure: we write to you saying what and why. You have 14 days to object — and not as a formality; we really do read objections. Then a decision is made, and if it stands, the number goes into the public list of revoked certificates, and the verification page starts showing that the certificate is invalid.

The program lead decides. If you disagree, the second instance is the certification working group.

What we cannot undo

The certificate link is the certificate: it carries the data and the signature over it. Once published, it cannot be pulled back from the internet — not by you, not by us.

All we can do, at your request or following a revocation decision, is add the number to the list of revoked certificates. Then anyone who opens the link will see that the certificate is invalid.

This design was chosen deliberately: it lets anyone verify a certificate without contacting us and without a database that could be lost. The price is that what has been issued cannot be erased.
